209, 211 Bear Creek Avenue
#11 on Walking Tour
Built ca.1876 – Built of native stone, this building was once owned by Ross’s daughter, Mary Quaintance.
In the 1960s, the building was home to the Special Effects Co., a workshop for props used in movies. Large tentacles sat in the front windows for many years. In the 1980s, this building housed Art Gore’s photography studio and shop.

In December 2001, this building was carefully deconstructed and subsequently rebuilt on the same footprint. The new building housed Café Prague at 209 BCA and a coffee shop in the attached space (211 BCA). Café Prague continued to occupy the space as of 2024, but closed in October 2024.

After housing Café Prague for two decades, this building is vacant. Expected opening of new restaurant in Fall 2025.
